CYPRUS 6/6 - THE STUDIO / EXPERIMENTAL VILLAGE

Audit Chaos (2015) Experimental Village [Sharpie on disposable tablecloth]

Between 21/03/2015-28/03/2015 I was fortunate enough to visit Cyprus School of Art, this post documents the work I made whilst in the studios at the School. The School had a unique atmosphere and ethos, it was almost like the Bauhaus but on acid.

Whilst there I traveled around the surrounding area and made observational drawings which I bought back into the studio to act as data. There was something intriguing about the Wi-Fi, it took you on a walk in order to find it, after seeing a technician wondering around with an antennae that looked large enough to catch a barrage of butterflies I knew I wanted to work with communication and the lines that this strange Experimental Village had to offer.

In reference to Marshall McLuhan's Global Village that: "The new electronic independence re-creates the world in the image of a global village" the notion of the information Superhighway in our current convergence of communication has never been so pertinent. (McLuhan,1964) The installation I constructed over the course of the week is manufactured around the notion of the village being a separate entity, an amalgamation of forms and drawings where; "The medium is the message". (McLuhan, 1967)
