Listening to the blissful track; "Magic" off Coldplay's latest album 'Ghost Stories' I flicked through the pages of the album booklet (yes I bought the actual physical CD, rare these days I Know) and I couldn't help but feel intrigued by the album art. I thought the cover was an etching and after some investigation I soon discovered after a quick Google the album art is by artist Mila Fürstová and that it is indeed an etching.
Enthralled by the aesthetic layering in the work I took a look at Fürstová's work online, which is and I quote from her artist statement (click here to read) is; "an intimate portrayal of the human soul explored through the medium of etching, expressed in a distinctly female voice." Etching, yes - etching! In a totally bias view as a person who believes printmaking and playing with acid (in the context of etching of course) is the best thing since sliced bread its great to see etching present in mass visual culture.
